
Careers & Educational Development Symposium

Twenty five school counsellors from Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Kudat and Tawau participated in the half-day symposium on “Careers and Educational Development” at Pacific Sutera, Kota Kinabalu Sabah on the 7 October 2015. The symposium was organized by Monash University Australia, in collaboration with Australia Trade Commission (AUSTRADE) and Victoria State Government and co-ordinated locally by A3 Education & Training.

This symposium is part of a series of events that was also held in two other cities namely Kuala Lumpur on 5 October and Kuching on 6 October. It is a professional development and engagement event connecting careers practitioners with representatives from all ten faculties at Monash University Australia.

The opening speech was given by Encik Roslan Bin Haji Md. Idris, Principal Assistant Director of the Human Development Sector from the State Education Department, representing Datuk Jame Alip, Director of State Education Department as the guest of honour. Ms Alphonsa Pakiam, Senior Regional Manager, Channel Management (International) from Monash University Australia, and Josie Abdullah, Senior Business Development Manager from Australian High Commission gave welcoming remarks on behalf of their respective institutions.

An hour of Appreciation and Networking Lunch held after the opening ceremony among the scholarship sponsor organization, school counsellors and educational leaders from Monash University Australia.
Symposium started at 1:30pm, school counsellors were given knowledge and further information on ten Monash University faculties, which is,

- Information Technology
- Law
- Medicine, Nursing & Health Science
- Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science
- Science

In the evening, the event was open to all visiting parents and students for an opportunity to speak to all the 10 faculties members from Monash University.
“It’s very rare for us to be able to meet up and speak to the staff members from all the faculties in Monash University and this time, all 10 of them are here. My son and I are taking the opportunity to find out more about Engineering and IT programme. We are glad that we came and the information is very useful for us to plan their further education after SPM,” said one parent, Mr Tan who visited the event.
