Air Service Training, Perth, Scotland
The AST Aeronautical Engineering School opened in 1934 at Hamble in Hampshire until 1960, when it was acquired by the Airwork Services group, and was relocated to its present site in Perth, Scotland. The company is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Perth College, UHI. Its over 80 years of operation AST has trained over 30,000 engineers from more than 150 countries.
For many years the core business of the Aeronautical Engineering College has been the training of aeronautical maintenance engineers under approvals issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), and more recently the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Perth College UHI in 1996 has led to a partnership that has seen the development of academic awards at National Qualification, Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma and Bachelor of Engineering Degree level in Aeronautical Engineering. Many of these are offered in conjunction with the Approved IR Part 66 course as a jointly delivered programme, and articulation onto the BEng degree is open to graduates from the approved courses. The partnership between Perth College and AST is unique amongst training providers serving the air transport industry, and provides innovative training solutions for all of the industry’s needs.
